We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Farm Director to support the next chapter of Cultivating Community’s Hurricane Valley Farm in Falmouth, ME. This 62-acre farm was saved from development by the Falmouth Land Trust and is leased by Cultivating Community. Our non-profit community farm program offers secure, affordable land access, shared infrastructure, training, and farming support to 30-50 BIPOC farming families from immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking backgrounds growing on 30×100 plots. Our program provides farming families with sustenance and food security as they grow and sell traditional crops that nourish their communities, preserve cultural heritage, and expand economic opportunity. This role will lead year-round farm operations and project management, support cross-cultural relationships with immigrant and refugee community farming families, supervise farm program staff, and work closely with partner organizations to advance local food sovereignty.

Job Description

Community Farm Program Leadership – Work with the ED and program managers to ensure program sustainability, develop strategic plans, and set and meet program goals – Lead day-to-day operations at the 62-acre community farm (approx. 7 acres in cultivation), including seasonal tractor field work – Collaborate and communicate with the landowner and sublessors, in coordination with farm staff, leadership, and other stakeholders – Manage the maintenance and improvement of farm infrastructure and equipment, such as irrigation systems, field equipment, and greenhouses – Design and implement soil health and cultivation plans, including cover cropping and working with ag service providers as needed – Supervise farm staff; support onboarding, offboarding, and review processes; and manage team schedules – Support farm staff in providing hands-on, in-field training and technical assistance – Support participant communication, including spring registration, program evaluation, and end-of-season check out for approx 40 families Seedling Program Coordination – Support the planning, contracting, production, sale, and distribution of approx 40,000 culturally familiar seedlings – Lead seedling greenhouse planning and management, and develop a plan for seedling program expansion Organizational Work – Support federal, state, and foundation grant applications, budget management, program tracking, and reporting – Support program resource development, including donor engagement and farm tours – Maintain and organize program records – Participate in staff meetings, professional development, annual reviews, and budgeting – Submit timesheets, reimbursements, and invoices – Participate in organizational and partner events – Other work as assigned

Formerly known as the New American Sustainable Agriculture Project (NASAP), Cultivating Community’s Farm Program is leading support for immigrant farmers in Maine. You would be joining a dedicated farm staff of 5, with support from leadership, our board of directors, and longstanding community partnerships.
