SUMMARY:Topworking: Learn to Graft Fruit Tree Scionwood Onto Established Trees
DESCRIPTION:Registration is full. To be added to the waitlist\, email events@mofga.org. \nLearn to topwork (graft) new disease-resistant\, cider\, dessert or heritage varieties onto your existing trees! Topworking is the type of grafting that is done when you have an established tree and you’d like it to produce a different variety of fruit.  \nThis is an incredible way to expand the type of fruit you grow and improve the quality of your orchard or backyard fruit trees over time. Learn about how to topwork scions (sticks of 1-year old wood of your new variety) onto your existing trees. We’ll talk about the tools and supplies you’ll need and delve into the most effective ways to top work fruit trees. \nThis workshop will be taught by Laura Sieger\, orchardist at Fedco Seeds\, and held at Pleasant Pond Orchard in Richmond\, Maine.  \nThis is an outdoor workshop\, and participants are encouraged to wear close-toed shoes\, long pants\, and sleeves. There are indoor restrooms available. Feel free to contact us with any questions about accessibility. In the event of severe weather\, the workshop will be held on Sunday\, May 17. \nThis year\, we are happy to announce that we are able to offer classes in our Organic Orcharding Workshop Series for free\, thanks to the Transition to Organic Partnership Program. \nQuestions?
