SUMMARY:Gather & Grow Tour: A 6-Acre Multi-Generational Homestead in Midcoast Maine
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Gather & Grow tour at a 6-acre multigenerational homestead in Nobleboro\, Maine! In this year’s Gather & Grow series\, garden tour hosts will share information about their gardening practices in general\, and through the lens of climate change adaptation. \nAbout the homestead: \nJoin Sam and Kim for a tour of their thoughtfully restored 6-acre homestead\, centered on growing nutrient-dense food and building a resilient\, regenerative lifestyle. After moving full-time to midcoast Maine in the spring of 2021\, they took on a long-abandoned property and\, over the past five years\, have brought it back to life.  \nToday\, the homestead supports a diverse range of systems. Sheep are raised for meat\, dairy\, and fiber\, with a focus on rotational grazing to rebuild soil health and revitalize pastures. Pigs and chickens are pasture-raised\, contributing to both the farm’s productivity and ecological balance. Visitors will see no-till market gardens and a kitchen garden that provide an abundance of vegetables throughout the growing season. This harvest is preserved and stored in a traditional root cellar\, supporting year-round nourishment. The homestead also includes fruit trees\, beekeeping\, and established herb gardens\, all contributing to a holistic\, nutrient-dense food system. Rounding out the farm’s infrastructure is a recently installed grid-tied solar array\, providing renewable electricity and supporting the homestead’s long-term sustainability. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Gather & Grow tour at a residential garden in Lewiston\, Maine! In this year’s Gather & Grow series\, garden tour hosts will share information about their gardening practices in general\, and through the lens of climate change adaptation. \nAbout the garden:  \nDavid Patrick and his family garden together in their backyard. With raised beds that grow annual fruits\, veggies\, and flowers\, as well as and perennial plantings of fruit trees\, fruit shrubs\, and grape vines: there is a bounty growing at this urban garden. Between the different raised beds and perennial plantings\, the garden features multiple systems. The gardens are supported by a variety of inputs for the soil — from their chickens’ bedding and manure\, to ash from their neighbor’s woodstove\, to comfrey plantings. And among their many raised beds\, each of the two kids in the family have one that they plant and tend themselves.
