What to Expect from Us

The Stewardship and Farm Operations Manager will be the direct supervisor. The Seasonal Farm Steward will work alongside the Stewardship and Operations Manager, Herd Manager, Farm Steward, Erickson Fields Veggie Manager as well as Apprentices and Interns and independently. We can customize some independent special projects to the specific interests of the Farm Steward. Throughout the term, the steward and their supervisor will check in on a daily and weekly basis. The supervisor will meet with the steward at the mid-point and end of the term to conduct a work plan review and project progress evaluation. Spring training on tractor safety, chainsaw safety, first aid, invasive management, and cattle handling safety available as needed. Maine Coast Heritage Trust is a state-wide conservation organization that serves to improve the ecological health of coastal communities. At Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields Preserve we steward the land more intensively than a typical land trust preserve because of our agricultural operations. Given the intensive management, we focus on regenerative agricultural practices that improve soil and ecological health. The pastures, hayfields and gardens at Aldermere and Erickson Fields are managed using organic farming methods, and we implement no and reduced tillage techniques. Aldermere hosts weekly farm tours as well as pasture and hayfield walks, emphasizing rotation grazing, biodiversity and soil health as well as some occasional forest management and harvesting workshops. Erickson Fields hosts Korean Natural Farming and other workshops used to enhance soil microbial and plant health.
