Alongside our annual vegetable production, the farm also has a couple young peach and apple orchards, perennial flower, herb and fruit plantings. We use minimal mechanical tillage on the farm, we cultivate diversity with living pathways and beneficial plantings, we keep the soil full of growing plants as much as possible, and we use ergonomic, human-scale labor to keep us connected with the land we are working on every day. We sell our produce to our local community through an on-farm CSA program, and at the Bar Harbor Eden Farmers' Market which runs May-Oct.

Balfour Farm is a small, diversified organic dairy farm in Pittsfield, Maine. Our unique and distinctive cheeses made in small batches are made from the milk produced by our beautiful Normande cows. The multiple awards we have won locally, regionally and nationally show the quality of our cheeses. As a farmstead creamery, we control the process from pasture to plate, taking great pride in producing a wholesome product using sustainable methods. Our farm is completely off the grid, with 85% of our power generated by solar. Unique flavors are developed by aging cheeses in an underground, passively cooled vault that provides a natural environment for microbe growth development. Milking year round gives an appreciation for the seasonal changes in milk. Flavors that develop in the cheesemaking process reflect the terroir of our farm: from grassy notes in spring and summer cheeses, to richer bolder flavors from winter feeds. Whey from our cheesemaking is fed to our pig herd which produces flavorful pork cuts and value-added products like cured salami.

We are a small, well established, certified organic vegetable farm in Winterport, Maine. We sell a wide variety of vegetables through a 70 member CSA program and a weekly local farmers market. We also have an on-farm seedling sale event in the spring and celebrate the harvest season by vending at MOFGA's Common Ground Fair in September. We focus on growing high quality vegetables in healthy soil for our local community. We rotate growing on 4 acres, maintaining soil fertility through cover cropping and extend the season with three high tunnels. While we do use a tractor for some field work, most of our work is done using appropriate hand tools.

Roque Island Farm is a 200-year old working farm on a private island off the coast of Downeast Maine (Washington County). It has been owned and managed by the same family for that time.

We are a diverse, working farm whose mission is to provide high-quality farm products for island residents: meat and eggs, dairy products, vegetables and herbs, fruit, and flowers. Our focus is producing products to meet island needs, and we make contributions to local food banks when we have an excess.

The year-round livestock includes dairy cows, sheep, and laying hens, with a seasonal pig and broiler operation. We also care for a few retired horses. The quarter-acre garden is expanding but currently includes 24 raised beds, a main garden, herb and flower beds, and a small apple orchard. Poultry is harvested on-island, while larger animals are sent off-island for processing. In our small dairy, we turn our Jersey cows’ rich milk into butter, cream, milk, yogurt, and ice cream. We also produce our own hay, lumber, and firewood.

We are not certified organic, but we manage the garden to organic standards, do not use pesticides or herbicides and use a holistic and regenerative lens when making decisions about what is best for our soil, livestock and plants, and environment. Our seasonal rotational grazing operation provides our livestock with a low-stress lifestyle while allowing us to improve plant and soil health.
